Please share a memory of Janis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Life Reflections Janis Broadwater-Pinkston Artist and retired Philadelphia School District art teacher, Janis has had her artwork exhibited in many galleries and venues throughout the region. She has produced paintings, mosaics, and sculptures, her favorite medium, made from repurposed materials. As a teacher, she was recognized by the School District for her "brilliant creativity, genius, and ability to motivate and inspire students." A multi-talented creative, she wrote and illustrated the children's book A Squirrel Tale. An enthusiastic gardener, Janis cultivated beautiful plants in her home and a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers in her backyard garden. She was an adventurous traveler, having explored destinations including Ghana, Japan, Egypt, and Cuba. After graduating from Germantown High School, she earned a B.A. in fine arts from Howard University and a Masters' degree in education from Beaver College. Loving mother of Moses Samuel Pinkston, III (recently retired after serving 20 years with the Navy), Janis is also survived by many loving relatives and friends including her brother Bill Broadwater, Jr., sister-in-law Bernadette Fabrizio, niece Safiya Broadwater, Aunt Carolyn Robinson, cousins Dana Benson (Harry), David Washington, and Diane Washington (Jim). Always soft-spoken and caring, Janis was so kind that even during her final weeks in hospice she expressed deep concern for the well-being of those she knew.
