Bernard was born to the late Henry Lee Barrett Sr. and Della Mae Barrett (York) on November 15, 1957 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the third of five boys. He attended Taggart Middle School and then completed his high school career at Murrell Dobbins Vocational Tech in 1975. He played varsity football and basketball while there. A few years later he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized after joining Jones Memorial Church in North Philadelphia. Soon after he chose to serve his country by joining the Army National Guard, being trained as a combat engineer. Later in life he moved to Virginia for 10 years, working as a carpenter before returning to Philadelphia. Bernard was a funny, loving, charismatic and comedic individual. Bernard enjoyed watching westerns on tv, fishing, basketball and cooking, often trying many new recipes. Bernard was preceded in death by his father Henry Lee Barrett Sr, his mother Della Mae Barrett (York), his younger brother Kevin Barrett and Sister-in-law Derrelyn Barrett (Henry Jr.). He leaves to cherish wonderful memories of him his wife of 17 years Tracey Barrett (Christburgh) of Philadelphia; Daughter Syreeta McNair (Cynthia) of Charlotte, NC; Stepson Darryl Medley (Cynthia) of North Carolina; Sister-in-law Paris Christburgh of Philadelphia, PA; brother Henry Lee Barrett Jr. of Jacksonville. FL; brother Anthony Barrett and (Sister-in-law Chris) of Philadelphia, PA; brother Kenneth Barrett and (sister-in-law Delmaria) of Norfolk, VA as well as four aunts, one uncle and a host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
